AEROSINT

Multi-material 3D printing

Aerosint was established in 2016 as a spin-out of the Belgian start-up factory MAKE IT GROUP. Aerosint is an engineering company driven by innovation headquartered in Liège.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) and selective laser melting (SLM) are two powder bed 3D printing processes that can produce functional parts with complex, optimized geometries for direct industrial application. A major shortcoming of SLS/SLM is that they are inherently single material. At Aerosint they believe 3D printing will only cause a true revolution in manufacturing when it can enable the production of multi-material parts with optimized material composition for optimized functionality, all at a reasonable cost and with minimal material waste.

Aerosint has developed a selective powder deposition system to enable full 3-dimensional control over material placement in an SLS/SLM process, thus enabling multi-material part production. Effectively, their product is an alternate powder re-coating system that, instead of uniformly spreading just one single powder material, selectively deposits two powders to form a single layer containing two materials. With Aerosint’s powder deposition technology and proper thermal processing by laser, it will be possible to print multi-material parts of various combinations.
